Neat and educational science experiment. Shows how to recycle newspaper into your very own creation. We even tested right here on our counter.
We used shredded paper from our shredder. Its a lot faster than using scissors. You can still do it with scissors but you need to cut the paper very small. I recommend newspaper as thats what we used. Im sure other paper will work too. I filled a large bowl with the shredded paper and then added hot water. I figured the hot water would help break down the paper faster. We then waited till the water was cooled down. About 45 minutes. Then, I installed the safe plastic blade in the blender. I then, added a handful of wet paper to it and filled about half full of water. Installed the cap and lever making sure it interlocked with the blade and began turning the handle. If the handle is hard to turn you have too much paper in it. Reduce and try again. I turned it for about 2 minutes. The result was a gray mass of paper. Gray because of the newspaper ink. No matter as this is an experiment and different color paper can be used next time. I pour the pulverized paper into the blue bowl and made another batch and repeated. I made three batches. Then I put my screen and deckle together and basically scooped up a load of paper mush. I swooshed it back and forth to level it out. Shake the water out then remove the deckle. The add the white paper and turn over. I rubbed the screen with paper towel to help dry the water out. I then carefully lifted up the screen and there was my gray handmade paper. Then I pressed it and removed it to dry. Thats it. A great experiment in recylcling. | *$14.89 |
